Add or edit deposits

You can add or edit deposit transactions to help you keep track of the income you receive in the course of business.

  1. Do one of the following.

    • Enter a new deposit: In the Banking screen, click New Transaction, or click the down arrow for the Retrieve Bank Feeds button > New Transaction, and then click Deposit.

Note: A list of customer payments that have been recorded but not previously deposited will be displayed in the expanded Customer Payments section. Mark the checkboxes for the payments that you want to deposit.

    • Edit an existing deposit: In the Banking screen, click the deposit that you want to change.
  2. Enter or change the information.

    Notes

    • To record a deposit that includes income other than customer payments, expand the Other Deposit Types section.
    • You cannot change the type of transaction. For example, if you entered an expense that was actually a deposit, you must delete the expense and enter the transaction again as a deposit transaction.
    • Date field: Defaults to the date you add the deposit.
    • Category field:
      • Classifies your deposit transactions.
      • Personal: For expenses you want to exclude from the calculation of Net Profit or Loss and for any expense that is not related to your business.

        Example

If you receive $1,500.00 for the sale of a company asset and you hold $200.00 for personal use and deposit $1,300.00, enter Other Income of $1,500.00 in the first allocation line, and then add a line and enter Personal of -$200.00 for a net deposit total of $1,300.00.

Note: OnBalance will automatically categorize the transaction if you added a transaction rule for the deposit.

  3. Click Upload Receipt if you want to attach a receipt to the transaction.
  4. Click Save & New to make another entry, or click Save & Close to close the screen.
